N3twork, also behind Tetris Royale, launches an all-new Tetris title
|EA's Tetris 2011 and Tetris Blitz are soon set to close down following N3twork acquiring global rights to develop and publish new Tetris games for mobile. The disappearance of both games from Google Play was first spotted by Android Police.
'We have had an amazing journey with you so far but sadly, it is time to say goodbye. As of April 21, 2020, EA's TetrisĀ® app will be retired, and will no longer be available to play,' says an in-game message.
'Kindly note that you will still be able to enjoy the game and use any existing in-game items until April 21, 2020. We hope you have gotten many hours of enjoyment out of this game and we appreciate your ongoing support. Thank you!'.
PocketGamer.biz notes that, outside the change in names, the message is identical in both games.
All is not lost, though, as N3twork has just put out its very own Tetris title on Google Play. The release was first spotted by Slash Gear. N3twork is also behind the promising Tetris Royale, a sort of spin on the excellent Tetris 99 for Switch, which is currently available in soft launch. It's a 100-player game of Tetris, cheekily inspired by the battle royale genre, where everyone faces off to be the last remaining player.
While Tetris 2011 and Blitz may have disappeared from Google Play, existing users will still be able to enjoy a bit of EA-branded Tetris on the go until the iOS and Android close-down date of April 21st. It's a bit sad, I guess, but it's hard to get too upset considering multiple games have already sprung up in their place.
At the time of writing, both Tetris 2011 and Blitz are still available for download from the App Store. You can get involved in Tetris Royale's soft launch right now, and you'll find N3twork's Tetris available for free from Google Play.
