When you cannot uninstall Legacy because of the “Could not open INSTALL.LOG file” or similar INSTALL.LOG error message:

• If you only recently installed Legacy and never had an earlier version of Legacy:

• If you have an earlier version of Legacy Family Tree and then installed the current version of Legacy:
NOTE: Both the new and earlier version of Legacy are on your computer; however, the Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs) tool in the Control Panel will display only the current version of Legacy. Your earlier version of Legacy is no longer registered.
1. Backup or copy your family file and pictures, etc. to a safe place, preferably to Legacy Family TreeData and Legacy Family TreeMedia in your Documents folder.
2. Legacy Family Tree, Legacy Charting and Legacy FamilySearch and add-on programs must all be closed before you can uninstall.
3. Delete the Legacy folder at C:Legacy.

Delete the old red and blue shield icon for Legacy 7.5 or earlier from your Desktop screen and Start menu.
5. Remove the old Legacy 7.5 earlier program items from your All Programs menu and unpin the old red and blue Legacy icon, as needed.

• If you only installed Legacy 7.5 or earlier:
1. Backup or copy your family data file and pictures, etc. to a safe place.
2. Legacy Family Tree, Legacy Charting and Legacy FamilySearch and add-on programs must all be closed before you can remove Legacy.
3. Right-click on the Legacy icon and select Open file location on the popup to open the Legacy folder.

4. Delete the Legacy.exe file.
5. Next, go to the Control Panel and open the Programs and Features (Add/Remove Programs) tool, then highlight the Legacy program and remove it. Your computer will notify you that Legacy can’t be found and ask you if you want to delete any references to it. Click Yes.
6 If you never plan to use Legacy again, delete the old Legacy folder at C:Legacy.

7. Delete the old red and blue shield icon for Legacy 7.5 or earlier from your Desktop screen and Start menu.
8. Remove the old Legacy 7.5 earlier program items from your All Programs menu and unpin the old red and blue Legacy icon, as needed.
